Kamnik in the Rhythms of Tradition, Color and Celebration!
52nd DAYS OF NATIONAL COSTUMES AND CLOTHING HERITAGE
Kamnik, September 12–14, 2025
Kamnik will once again shine in the colors, rhythms and melodies of Slovenian cultural heritage. From September 12 to 14, 2025, we will host the 52nd Days of National Costumes and Clothing Heritage, the largest ethnological festival in Slovenia, which attracts tens of thousands of visitors and participants from Slovenia and abroad every year.
This year’s featured festival region will be Bela krajina, which will present its unique national costume, recognizable for its white linen garments, distinctive headscarves and aprons. Their costume reflects simplicity, elegance and centuries of care for tradition, which is still alive and respected today.
Visitors will also be able to discover Bela krajina’s “pisanice” – handmade Easter eggs decorated with traditional wax patterns – and taste authentic local specialties such as the famous Bela krajina flatbread (belokranjska pogača). This delicious bread, topped with salt and caraway seeds, will also be featured in a live baking workshop at the Mekinje Monastery. Festival stalls will offer many other delights from Bela krajina, including handcrafted items from local artisans.
Alongside the rich presentation of Bela krajina’s traditions, Kamnik will, over these three days, embrace the heritage of all Slovenian regions, while also welcoming folk groups and artists from abroad, enriched by the warm hospitality and local flavors of Kamnik.
More than just a festival
The Days of National Costumes and Clothing Heritage are much more than just an event – they are a celebration of Slovenian identity, craftsmanship, cultural diversity and heritage that connects people. In the heart of Kamnik, the old and the new, the local and the global will intertwine – with a lively market of local and artistic crafts, craft demonstrations, local food vendors, culinary workshops, music, dance, and the heartfelt joy of all who believe in the importance of preserving cultural heritage.
